Smokin’ Oaks is a small, family-run farm located in Middle TN, just outside the greater Nashville area.  All of our animals are pasture raised on our farm where they are allowed to roam free across wide open pastures. We supplement their diets with organic grains grown right here on our own farm, which helps produce flavorful, tender, marbled cuts of meat that professional chefs and home cooks alike can appreciate.

Our animals are raised to our farm’s USDA Certified Organic standards and are never treated with antibiotics, hormones, or steroids.   Our family farm’s veterinarian is also an organic nutritionist, so we can care for our animals’ health naturally.

Grass Fed & Organic Pasture Raised: Confusion vs. Goodness

Sometimes we hear questions like, “Is your meat organic?” or, “Is it grass fed?”  Well, yes.  But these terms can mean different things.  Sadly the definitions of these terms have gotten a bit murky as marketing, labeling and certifications have deemed “organic” to be the same as “Organic Certified” and “grass fed” with “exclusively grass fed.”  

The reality is that some “Organic Certified” meat is still raised in tight quarters with little animal health in mind, while truly “grass fed” meat generally has a gamey and lean flavor that makes it less desirable on the dinner table.

We don’t confine our animals, but instead, allow them to freely roam our pastures.  We supplement their diets with organic grains that we grow ourselves here on our farm.  By following these natural practices,we can ensure a happy blend of healthy herd lifestyles without compromising taste.
